Mr. Blasberg's Best-Dressed List: Milan Fashion Week Spring 2012 Edition

Scarlett Johansson in Dolce & Gabbana
Va-va-voom, Scarlett! Although the actress has been the face of Dolce & Gabbana’s cosmetics line for nearly three years now, this was the first time she made the trek out to Milan for the brand’s fashion show. And, well, she was worth the wait. Domenico and Stefano have long celebrated the curvy, beautiful woman (they did immortalize the Italian legend Sophia Loren on her own T-shirt a few years ago), and they hit the jackpot with Scarlett.
Sarah Rutson in Alexander Wang
Scarlett wasn’t the only one working a bit of lace in Milan. Sarah Rutson broke out this absolutely divine Alexander Wang skirt for a day of shows. My first reaction was to wonder if a lacy something with a cascading hemline was a little much for a day of shows — but it is fashion week, after all. Besides, sometimes it’s nice to throw a bone to those street style photographers. I’m sure they ate this one up.
Elisa Sednaoui in Louis Vuitton
Louis Vuitton has been hot on the lips of all of us in fashion. The possibility (and I would like to stress the word possibility) that LV’s creative director, Marc Jacobs, may take over at Christian Dior is now openly discussed. But what was not a taboo subject were the women who wore Marc’s fall designs at the opening of the brand’s "The Art Of Fashion" exhibition. I loved this dress that Elisa Sednaoui had on — and especially those shoes. Elisa’s had zippers, but they reminded me of going backstage after the show, when the samples were still in lace form, and seeing those models painstakingly taking off their shoes. Hey, sometimes it’s hard work to look that good.
Virginie Courtin-Clarins in Louis Vuitton
Virginie Courtin-Clarins, one of the four Clarins sisters who have been taking over the front rows of fashion shows this season, donned a different — but similarly subversive — Louis Vuitton look. It’s what I like about Marc: innocent at a quick glance but just a little bit naughty when you get closer.
Delfina Delettrez at the Fendi O’ party
At a party for her family dynasty, Delfina Delettrez kept it sheer — but not racy. I love the ruffles and the high neckline on the dress, which is just distracting enough that one doesn’t notice
Bianca Brandolini d’Adda at the Dolce & Gabbana show
What can I say? I have a thing for cardigans. In fact, I have a whole closet of them. So when I see a girl take something I associate with comfort (and also, curiously, my grandfather) and make it look high fashion, I must pay homage. My kudos go to Bianca Brandolini d’Adda for the sensible, yet super stylish ensemble she wore to the Dolce & Gabbana show in Milan. I even like the lace-up spat flats she wore, and, yes, I probably have something similar to those in my closet too.
Charlotte Casiraghi in Gucci
Charlotte Casiraghi, one of the chicest and most beautiful women in Europe, and Gucci, one of the greatest brands operating out of Italy today, have a good thing going on. Not only does the label dress her in gorgeous dresses, like this bright, fringed one that she wore to the opening of the Gucci Museo in Milan this week, it also sponsors and outfits her for her many equestrian adventures. And, trust me, if you think she looks good pounding the pavement in this cocktail dress, you should see how she handles a horse.
